Photo Tip #27: Five more Great Photo Tips to Avoid (II)

Part two of our on going series about photography tips to avoid. 1. Over or under expose all your pictures all the time. There are those who believe that you should over or under expose your images by a little bit all the time for one reason or another. With the huge latitude that we get from our digital cameras today, there is very little reason to do this at all. Unless you know that your camera consistently gives results that cause you to always brighten or darken your images, over or under exposing all of your images all of the time is probably not necessary. 2. SALT water and FRESH water. For more than 30 years there has been a common myth that if you accidentally drop your camera equipment into the ocean, you simply have to soak it in fresh water to clean it! We are here to tell you that if you have dropped your non-waterproof camera into any body of water, it's probably toast. It's time to call your insurance company and file a claim. 3. Ditch the neck strap and get a hand strap. Although many photographers like using a hand strap, which is fine, it also means that when you're not shooting, you never have two hands free. With a large DSLR this can also be rather fatiguing on your hands as well. And this may not be helpful if you need to steady your camera. You need to choose which you prefer, this is not a one size fits all model. 4. The more the photos you take, the better you get. There's nothing like reinforcing bad habits! Although all of us at NYC Photo Safari will encourage you to experiment more and to take more photos, we also encourage you to take your time and to consider your composition. Playing the lottery more often doesn't really increase your odds of winning. 5. Landscape photography can become dull after a while. Wonder if Ansel Adams would have agreed with that? It's up to every photographer to find what inspires them. What inspires you?
