Please note Saturday and Sunday sessions will all be held near the Dundee city center. Exact locations will be anounced in late May. Locations will be chosen for accessibility to public transit and parking. The Monday, August 6 session will move to Edinburgh; exact locations will be anounced at that time.

Saturday, August 4 (Downtown Dundee)

Session 1 - 1:30-4:30 pm Beyond the Basics (3 hours) This session is geared towards those who have a beginning to intermediate understanding of their camera settings. We'll explore when to use the various settings available on your camera (specifically, Manual, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Program Mode). The session will be hands on so you'll get real experience learning what to do and when to do it. Although most photographers recommend the use of Aperture Priority in general, and especially when photographing landscapes, we'll explore why and when Shutter Priority may be a better choice. You will also learn about exposure and how proper exposure is achieved within the camera's metering as well as a better understanding of different metering modes as appropriate for different scenarios. You'll learn about White Balance - what it is, how it works, and why it's important even when shooting RAW. Location: TBA(£70) [8 Seats Available 3 Seats left]

Session 2 - 6:00-8:00 pm Composition Boot Camp (2 hours) This session will NOT involve the rule of thirds, leading lines, nor golden rule discussion. To get your images to the next level, you must go beyond trite and basic concepts. Learn how to look more closely at a scene by understanding balance and lines. Get a better understanding of composition. Location: TBA (£70) [8 Seats Available 5 Seats left]

Session 3 - 9:30-12:00 pm Night photography and Magic Hour (2.5 hours) Learn long exposure and flash photography as we photograph the Dundee city center. Flash has a bad reputation amoung amatuers while almost all commercial photography utilizes flash. Part of this session will help give you a better grasp of flash photography. You'll aslo get a better understanding of white balance. You must bring a tripod for this session. Location: TBA (£100) [6 Seats Available 4 Seats left]


Sunday, August 5 (Downtown Dundee)

Session 1 - 1:00-3:00 pm Macro Photography (2 hours) - Learn how to photograph the little things in life. You'll get a better handle on depth of field and bokeh along with lighting. Learn how to control light in an outdoor setting and where to find good light as to acheive a studio look with out a studio. For this session you'll need to have a macro lens or extension tubes. Nikon and Canon tubes will be made available on a first come first serve basis. Location: TBA (£85). [ 6 Seats Available, 5 Seats left]

Session 2 - 4:30-7:00 pm (2.5 hours) Architecture & Long Exposure. This session will concentrate on architectural photography and long expsoure. To work on long exposure you will need to bring a 10 or 15 stop filter and a tripod. You'll learn how to calculate shutter speeds without an app. Location: TBA (£85) [8 Seats Available.]


Monday, August 6 (Downtown Edinburgh)

Session 2 - 2:30-5:00 Street and travel Photography. Learn how to capture the atmosphere of a place, from people to architecture as you venture through the Fringe Festival. Work with long and short shutter speeds to create special affects. Learn how to photograph details and tell a story with your photos. Location: TBA (£70) [8 Seats Available.]


Equipment: Any digital camera will work just fine except for the night session which requires that your camera must have manual over rides. Night session also require a tripod & a flash; on camera flash will also work. Suggested lenses are 18-55 (24-70mm) and long zoom. If you have an ultra-wide angle lense it may be helpful for the architectural sessions. You MUST have a macro lens or extension tube for the macro session.

Travel: You are responsible for getting to and from the meeting locations on your own. There will be enough time to travel between locations via mass transit. You may also drive your own car.

Meals: There will be just enough time to refuel in between sessions at local eateries.

Meeting locations: Meeting locations will be emailed prior to start of event.
