Although we never intend to, we always put our fingerprints on our lenses. For this carry a microfiber cloth in your camera bag. Just a small one will do (about 4″x4″) . Be careful when choosing one because some clothes will actually scratch your lens. Choose one that does not have a tag on it or silk screen logo (these things scratch too). Instead choose one that feels like silk or suede. The silk ones are great for cleaning but not absorbing water. The suede feeling ones will absorb water and clean as well. Ones with other textures? make sure you test them on a window before using it on your expensive lens.
