Buy a 99 cent poncho for rainy days. Although a totally waterproof Gortex jacket works great for keeping you dry it does little to keep your camera equipment dry. With a poncho you will be able to keep everything under cover until you need it. You'll even have space to change lenses, batteries or memory cards. The only draw back is it does not breathe well, so on warm rainy days it can be a little uncomfortable. It's also not as stylish as a Patagonia Gortex jacket, but at least your equipment will be happier.
