Why not? The standard notion is that your subject will be back lit and therefore you are going to loose detail. Although this is true you may not have a choice. There are several technical solutions for this problem which you can learn on safari which I will not go into detail here. But there are times when you can't resolve the problem. Then what? My suggestion is, if you can't find beat it own it. What? That's right own it. Get rid of the details altogether. Here is a good example.
