Martin Luther King Day Celebration /

Head to the Brooklyn Academy of Music for the City's largest event commemorating Dr. King. This long-running annual tradition features artists, activists and civic leaders. So head to Brooklyn and join the celebration of Dr. King's life. While in the neighborhood stop by Junior's for some of their famous Cheesecake.

Three Kings Day Parade

This annual tradition has been going on for nearly 40 years. It is sponsored by the El Museo del Barrio . This year's parade will begin at 106th Street and 5th Avenue and head east to Third Avenue going north to 116th Street where it takes a left turn back to Park Avenue. The procession features camels, puppets, floats, and thousands of students and community members participating. The Parade will start at 11:00 and finish at 12:30 . At the end of the parade route you'll find lots of traditional Puerto Rican food to try and live music. The Museum will also have free admission for the entire day.

Noguchi Museum

This week head to Long Island and visit the Noguchi Museum. A modern art museum solely dedicated to the works of Japanese American Artist Isamu Noguchi. The museum is housed in Noguchi's former studio and rotates his work through out the year. Although, for many his name goes unrecognized he was one of the America's most influential 3D artists. You can find his work throughout the Unites States including Rockefeller Center. The facility is quiet and tranquil, much like his work. Although not a first tier thing to do, it most certain is a second tier item.

Blevedere Castle

Belvedere Castle is in the middle of Central Park, New York City. It is one of the four original structures designed into the park. The castle sits on the highest natural elevation on Manhattan Island. Within the castle is a visitor center, a look out onto the city and a weather station. The Central Park Rangers often conduct programs from here so check the central park website for more information.

St. John the Divine

This weekend we think you should head to a church! St. John the Divine is one of the most spectacular churches in New York but it is rarely visited by tourists due to it's location way up at 112th Street on the Upper West side. This magnificent structure is huge and caverness. Plan to spend at least an hour exploring this church. If you are wanting to take photographs bring a tripod or steady your camera against one of the pews.

New Kam Man Store!

This has probably never made a top ten things to do list anywhere but we're recommending that you stop by the New Kam Man market in Chinatown Flushing. This store is an all in one Emporium. From restaurant to take out to grocery store to home goods! Everything is Chinese Chinese Chinese! It is an amazing cultural event all on it's own. Stop in, go downstairs and look at all the trinkets and things you can buy. If you are looking for tea, this is definitely the right place to go with over 50 to choose from! You won't find any Bigelow Tea here, that's for sure. You will however find things you would never find in a modern western grocery store.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Perhaps the best place to be when it's cold out side is inside. The Metropolitan Museum of Art has enough art to keep you occupied for a week! It's warm and there's even restaurants inside so you don't have to leave - well not until closing time. Please note that the museum is open late on Fridays and is now open 7 days a week. Bryant Park Winter Village

It's still cold out so why not head to the Bryant Park Winter village and get on a slick of ice? Sure why not? It's great fun for everyone. The Bryant Park Winter Village is NYC's only FREE ice skating rink, if you bring your own skates that is. If you don't have your own skates you can rent them. And if you don't know how to skate you can rent a penquin helper for $15/half hour! This is a family friend and date friendly thing to do. And if you discover it's too cold for your taste? Well there's plenty of hot chocolate around.

New York City is not a city which lacks museums. This week why not take a look at the NYC Fire Museum. It's definitely family friendly. You'll get a chance to see what it's like on the inside of NYC Fire Department rhough the ages! The museum has all kind of fire house memorabilia as well ask actual fire trucks from days past. Located in a former fire house in lower Manhattan.

Brooklyn Bridge Park special exhibit

There are always art installations throughout NYC. From now until April 2016 at the Brooklyn Bridge Park you'll find "Please Touch the Art" by Jeppe Hein. You can view some of these pieces from the Brooklyn Bridge but why not get up close and personal. You can even have your photos taken with one. These are definitely worthy of Instagram. Do be sure to walk around the park to find more of these wacky orange benches.
