Cheap Tricks #27: Spring Clean Your Camera Bag (Part 2)

If you did Part One then you might as well do Part Two. Take a look at all the things that were in your bag and ask yourself, "Do I really need this? When was the last time I used this?" other than emergency supplies like band aids, you might want to reconsider those "optional" items.

While you are at it replace your band aids and wet wipes with fresh ones. There's nothing like a dead band aid when you really need it!

Cheap Tricks #26: Spring Clean Your Camera Bag (Part 1)

At least once a year you should completely empty all the contents of your camera bag on a table or on the floor (gently) and clean your bag! Once your bag is empty, take your bag outside, turn it upside down and give it a really good shake. Then take a vacuum, using use the small hose attachment, and get into the small parts of the bag. Your equipment will be much happier!

DIY Photo Safari #23: The Bronx Zoo - a Jungle Safari!

The Bronx zoo is the second largest zoo in the United States behind the world famous San Diego Zoo. Started by what is now known the Nature Conservancy, the Bronx Zoo offers spectacular opportunities for photographing wildlife (both in front of and behind the fence!).

If you are headed to Africa for a Safari book a Private Photo Safari with NYC photo safari before you leave and let us show you how to take better photos before you get chased down by that lion.

Cheap Tricks #25: Beer Koozie as a Lens protector!

Here's an idea that came from a participant on the NYC the UPshot photo safari. If you need some protection for your lens try using a beer cozy! They are inexpensive (see link below) and are made of neoprene so they offer your camera just enough protection. For those who like to bang their camera bag around it's perfect!

Unfortunately they don't really come in different sizes and they do not close on both ends; this is a plus for some because it makes it faster to remove your lens.

Cheers!

Photo Tip #21: Finding the Sunrise Schedule w/o the Internet.

Photo Tip #21: Finding the Sunrise Schedule w/o the Internet.

If you are traveling and you can't get reliable internet service and you forgot to look up the times for the sunrise there's an easy solution: Just ask! But don't just ask anyone, most people don't know and or pay attention. So who do you ask? A religious person. Let's face it, most of the world is religious. And many of the world's religions have rituals that happen just before or just after the sunrise. So if you want to know when the sun will rise where ever you are in the world just ask a religious person when morning prayers or morning meditation is scheduled for. Do ask for clarification as to whether or not it is before or after the sunrise, and plan accordingly.

Boy that was easy!
