What is a Macro Lens

What do you need to attend the Macro Photography session?

To get the most out of the macro photography class, you'll need a macro capable lens or camera. For a lens to qualify as a "macro lens" it needs to be able to at least fill up the entire frame of the camera with a US quarter (a 25 cent coin). Or an object that is at least 24mm in height. If you can fill up the entire frame with like the photo below, you have macro capabilities.

If you do not have a macro lens you may also use an extension tube like this one of these: extension tube (be sure you get one for your specific camera body; this is a link for Canon)

Or you may use reversing ring (not recommended) with an old manual lens. For more information budget alternatives to the macro lens, please click here: Macro Photography Podcast
